ummmm - I have RNY - but have been around the board for about 5 years..... from what I have seen of Lap Banders - that's a lil agressive.  You're getting cut in 2 days, meaning that you're looking to lose 20lbs a month.

I really haven't seen banders do that unless they are high weight - and you're looking to lose 90lbs.  So, that 40 lbs would be almost 50% of your total goal in less than 1/3 of the one year honeymoon timeframe.  Not to be a spoil sport - but it doesn't seem realistic.

The purpose of the band is to lose SLOWLY.  40lbs in 2 months is more normal for an RNYer.  Can I ask why 12/23 is so exacting a goal for you?

It is possible.  When  I was banded I lost 27 lbs in the first month.  In 6 mths I had lost 80 lbs.  Now I had trouble keeping food down and eventually had the band removed because of it so I am not sure you can judge by my situation.  However in the beginning I lost a lot of weight with the band.  I was 307 the day of surgery.

I think that amount is a challenge for a relative light weight with any surgery.  I wish I knew how to loose so quickly.  I'd be surprised if this was possible while following your doctors nutrition plan.  Many of those who had bands the month I had my rny were expected to loose 50lbs a year.

hello   the first six months of becoming a bandster, i averaged about 10lbs a month.  after that, i really can't say that i was as devoted to the program, so the weight loss slowed somewhat.  i gave myself a year to get to my goal (we seem to be identical in starting weight and goal weight area).  i'm satisfied with where i'm at now, so the "determination" to lose more really isn't there.  my doc is pleased with where i'm at and doesn't think i need to lose anymore to conform to some numbers on a table (bmi).  with that, just know that you have to be patient with the band and work the hell out of it to get the results you want.  good luck to you.

Nope not unrealistic at all, I lost 40 pounds in my first two months, and I lost 100 pounds in about 10 months, but I ALSO exercised every day, walking about 2-3 miles daily and I had good restriction and ate mostly proteins so it IS doable, check out the lap band forum here are many that lose very quickly as long as they are committed.

From what I have seen those who DO NOT excercise or follow rules tend to be the very slow losers with the band.

Good luck

Hello and congrats to you on your surgery date.  Each person will lose the weight differently.  "I" was able to lose 21 lbs my first month and at my three month check up I had lost 39 lbs.  Good luck to you.

Well my sister you have heard it from the pros..... But now you can hear it from a non pro, I am not lap band and I am rny and not at goal after 5 years but my faith says it will still happen and I will make it happen.  I believe that it really is UP TO YOU!!!!......Had I not looked to the left or the right and stayed focused I would have made my goal but I allowed life to happen and being who I am that does not mean just my life ....it means everybody.  This journey is yours...you focus on you and your situation , do what you need to do, pray and believe 40 by the date is possible.  Stay encouraged.

I don't know if you'll lose 40 pounds that quickly but you look great already.  You carry your weight well.  (Don't you hate when people say that?!?!  I get that all the time.)

I don't have a band, so i don't know how helpful I can be.  But what i will say is that, for me, i've stopped putting goals on myself to be down a certain weight by a certain day.  Just because the body can be unpredictable, and you don't want to set yourself up for disappointment.  you could literally be doing ALL the right things, and the scale doesn't move fast enough for whatever reason.  Everyone is different though, so I wish you luck regardless.  I'm sure it can be done, but if it's not, don't let it stress u.
